The prequel to "Principles of Growth", tentatively titled "Interweaving", is now in progress and shaping up nicely.  No promises about posting dates, but I'll let you know as things develop.

In the meantime, enjoy this Shakespearian sonnet based on a scene from "Principles" (specifically part 13, "Desideratum").

Life Given
A shadow blots out light of autumn hues,
Mark of the foe against which House can’t win:
The opiates he can’t help but abuse
Kill as they numb him, without and within.
A warning made, a lesson long ago,
Life-force streaming at will from outstretched hands:
Perhaps he can avert the mortal blow,
If he can pay the price that deed demands.
This tenet’s one every spellcaster knows:
Nothing is given but with equal cost.
But when pain human measures overthrows,
He can’t stand by and see his father lost.
Remembered agony in sharp relief:
He’ll bring his gift to bear against that grief.
