As an introduction, everyone's dæmons (names, forms and the significance thereof, as well as a few paragraphs to explain what dæmons are to those who aren't familiar with His Dark Materials) are listed here.  Note that fics are posted in order of internal chronology, not necessarily the order in which they were written.

Filed below is an early experiment with the idea of dæmons for House et al.: House and Wilson and their respective dæmons embark on a relationship, and begin working through the issues unearthed by the Tritter disaster.

Shifting Balances )

Having gotten the idea of how to write the characters with their dæmons, I threw canon parameters out the window and brought the societal norms of Philip Pullman's world to PPTH.  This fusion of the two worlds created something much richer, and far larger, than I expected at the onset.

Title: Sacrificed For
Author: lit_luminary
Rating: G
Characters/Pairings: House, Wilson, Chase; House/Wilson (established); House/Chase mentorship/friendship with father/son implications.
Summary: In "Principles of Growth," Wilson risked his soul to put House together again.  Chase risked his life to stop House’s pain.  Neither of them asked him first.
Note: This is intended to be a song, but there is no tune: I can write lyrics with reasonable facility, but can't compose music to go with them.  Anyone who can and wishes to may.

Borrowing this one from [livejournal.com profile] phinnia : first ten people to comment get a House drabble by request, to the prompt of their choosing.  (My particular strengths are House/Wilson friendship or relationship, House/Chase friendship, father/son or mentorship, general canon characterizations, and wildly AU stuff involving supernatural elements.  So if you want dæmons, werewolves, vampires and that sort of thing, I'm able and amenable.  Anything outside that list, I'll give my best effort.)

Now, this is going to end up going one of two ways: either fewer than ten people actually follow this journal (which I suspect, as they usually ever just stop by from the comms) and I will get to have a cynical laugh.  Or up to ten people will respond, and I'll be pleasantly and extremely surprised.

Fourth, for [livejournal.com profile] pasdepixie: "House/Chase mentorship/friendship with subtle kindness by House, set after Cameron's departure."  (Let's say after "Ignorance is Bliss."  Oh, and I disclaim the phrase "Amber Volakis Memorial Apartment," which I first read in a Television Without Pity recap.)

Fifth, for Nibis: "...House and Wilson join forces to take someone (who clearly deserves it) down a peg or two.  Any universe that suits your fancy."  (This one ended up being a song rework, set within the canon universe, but it's about as long as any of the prose drabbles.  Lucas is the target of House and Wilson's revenge.  Incidentally, if anyone is interested in the other songs I've reworked, check here.)

Several songs from Andromeda's perspective, about Chase and mother-love.  (To the tunes of  1) "The Past is Another Land" from Aida, 2) "Race You to the Top of the Morning" from The Secret Garden, and 3) "King of Pain" by The Police.)

1) Andromeda's Lament: A sorrow-song for a stifling marriage.

And one based canonically: House's perspective on Chase in the wake of the Dibala incident, to the tune of "Standing" from BtVS' Once More, With Feeling.

Another trio of House song reworks--as ever, links are supplied to instrumental accompaniment for singing purposes.  Two are canon-based; the third is set within "An Art of Balance," the coming "Principles" sequel.  (Vague spoiler warning for that one, but no more than the sonnets.)

1: "Despite Pain" to the tune of "King of Pain" by The Police.  House suffers, but he doesn't let it stop him from living his life.

2: "Let's Talk Now of Diagnosis" to the tune of Gilbert and Sullivan's "Never Mind the Why and Wherefore" from H.M.S. Pinafore.  You could call this one 'DDX in song, 2.0.'  Featuring House, the original fellows and a satirical tone.

3: "Andromeda's Eyes" to the tune of "Lily's Eyes" from The Secret Garden.  (Hyperlink supplied is to an MP3 of the original song, with vocals: listen, as it is gorgeous.  Instrumental version for singing is linked under the cut.)  Again, this one belongs to the dæmonverse AAU--a duet by Chase's aunts as they consider him and the sister they lost.

Watched a few House episodes yesterday and came up with this: a dæmonverse AAU spin on S2's "The Mistake," told as a poem in free verse.

Mistake Averted )

And as a general note, I've hit a creative breakthrough with "An Art of Balance" after reading some of Joseph Campbell's work on the heroic cycle and a bit more on the Jungian concept of the shadow-self: I now have the story mapped more or less to the end and can begin actually writing it.  Extremely thrilled about this.

—D.

ETA: Alternated between writing my prologue and taking notes for future chapters; also found a book that should be very useful.  And I just had an idea that wants to incorporate itself into the story's climax; it appeals to me on a number of intellectual levels, but at the same time I find it bizarre enough that I'm wondering whether I've had a stroke of genius or one of insanity.

The sequel to "Principles of Growth" is now tentatively titled "An Art of Balance," and has developed the majority of its plot (i.e., enough that I know more or less where it's going, but not so much that it can't surprise me in the middle).  I fully expect it to be as long as "Principles" and to demand as great a time commitment.

The sonnets that follow are under a cut, as they could be considered vaguely spoiler-ish—not enough to ruin the story for anyone, though.

Title: Changing Courses
Author: dominus_trinus
Rating: PG-13
Character(s): Chase
Genre: Alternate alternate universe, à la Pullman's His Dark Materials.
Summary: “They—started the cutting.  And they made everyone watch a demonstration.”  What happened immediately before Chase’s decision to leave seminary.
Notes: The portrayal of the Church here merely follows the tone Pullman set; no offense is intended.  Timeline-wise, this takes place about six years before "Appraisals and Appointments" and nine-and-a-half before "Principles of Growth."

The Vague Large Thing has germinated and is growing a plot; it promises to be at least the length of its predecessor.  I've written the first draft of the prologue and am currently deep in R&D, which is wonderful as I have something of an obsessive love of research.  Some details have been ironed out as far as setting goes: those of you interested in the 'where' of most of the story are welcome to have a look here.

I'm putting the sonnet (Chase's PoV, by the way) under a cut, as interpreting it will give away one or two plot details.  Anyone who wants to comment with a guess is more than welcome to do so.

Title: Appraisals and Appointments
Author: lit_luminary
Rating: PG
Characters: House, Wilson, Chase and Foreman (and their dæmons, naturally).
Genre: Alternate alternate universe, à la Pullman's His Dark Materials.
Summary: Power, politics and a phone call: how House of the dæmonverse came to hire Chase.
Notes: This takes place about three-and-a-half years before “Principles of Growth.”

Just so I have it in one place: the dæmons of the entire cast (all fellows now included) and the forms, names and symbolic meanings thereof.  Now under a cut, for aesthetics and in case anyone doesn't want to be spoiled.

Meet the menagerie )
lit_luminary: (Rona and Minerva)
All right, it's not the prequel you're all hoping for, but I'm willing to bet you'll be impressed anyway.

Why?

Because the sonnet redoublé is the most complicated sonnet sequence I've found.  It comprises fifteen sonnets, the first fourteen forming a corona (i.e., the last line of each sonnet is the same as the first line of the next, and the last line of the last sonnet is the same as the first line of the first, completing the circle) and the last is formed from the fourteen linking lines, in order.

This one is a kaleidoscopic (i.e., fragmented and not presented in any sequential order) look at "Principles of Growth", with sonnets from House's, Wilson's, Chase's and Andromeda's perspectives.

Here lies an abundance of iambic pentameter... )
lit_luminary: (Rona and Minerva)
Andromeda's lullaby, a continuing thread in "Principles", now has a tune and complete lyrics.  The tune is that of Vienna Teng's "Shine" (listen to a YouTube video of the original piece here); I wrote my own lyrics to fit.

Needless to say, feedback is very much appreciated.
